Insight to the Nature of Suffering

Along the way of enlightenment, I seek to give knowledge from other wise beings and pass along the lessons I am or have personally experienced. Please enjoy:

Excerpt from “The Dalai Lama’s Book of Wisdom”

Along with the methods for cultivating a sense of closeness to others there is another key element for developing compassion, and that is deepening our insight into the nature of suffering. The Tibetan tradition maintains that contemplation on suffering is much more effective when it is done on the basis of one’s own personal experience, and when it is focused on oneself, because, generally, we tend to be better able to relate to our own suffering than to that of others. This is why two of the principle elements of the Buddhist path, compassion and renunciation, are seen as two sides of the same coin. True renunciation arises when one has genuine insight into the nature of suffering, focused upon oneself, and true compassion arises when that focus shifts to others, so the difference lies simply in the object of focus.

Beauty is only skin deep. I think what’s really important is finding a balance of mind, body, and spirit. Somebody said to me not too long ago ,”Until you’re twenty, you have the face you are born with, and after that you have the face you deserve,” and I really loved that–the face idea that you wear who you are on your face.
